How I work

Healing Haven

We begin with a 20 minute phone call or a zoom chat, so we can get to know each other and see what you are looking for, ask questions, and see what is the best for you. My sessions are open ending, meaning there is no limit, but we will strive to get you through the challenge in a pace comfortable for you. Sessions will last one hour and can be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.

I do most of the work through the therapy rooms provided in Totnes, I also offer online/telephone sessions and walk and talk in nature.

Contract

As a registered member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), I abide by their legal standards and will provide you with a therapy contract. This confirms the therapy program we have agreed on, including times, dates, location and cost. It also includes the legal aspects around confidentiality and my insurance details. You will get a copy to keep and I will keep a copy on record.

Your First Session

This is where we get to know each other, and discuss what it is you are bringing so we can make a plan together to move forward. We will discuss the style of therapy you feel drawn to, what you feel would not work for you and make a start at exploring your issues in more detail.

Therapy Sessions

In the session I will invite you to explore your issues and challenges, and will safely navigate through your thoughts and feelings. This will feel different at times, but with a slow steady approach we will get to what is beneath the surface. Being an empathetic and supportive counsellor, I will use my skills to guide and gently encourage you to explore what you are bringing.

Working within grief or trauma I will provide a safe space for you to be able to process your emotions in a therapeutic way. Safety is a priority here and that will be provided in a slow, steady and tentative way.

Ending Session

Having a final session (ending) I find through experience to be a great way for clients and myself to reflect over what they have taken from the session, what has helped, meeting the goal that was set and overall of how they are feeling now compared to the beginning. You will take away new skills, tools and techniques to help you carry on forward in your day to day, with increased self awareness.

Professional Journey

I spent many years working within conservation and being in nature. This allowed me to attune my counselling sessions to the outdoors. I gained my qualification within counselling through Heartwood doing a level 3 and level 4 in Integrative course. Due to my own personal journey, I have special interest in outdoor therapy and working with grief.

Alongside my private practice I work as a volunteer counsellor for the bereavement counselling service in Plympton. I am a registered member of the NCPS and soon to join the BACP in which I abide by both their codes of ethics.
